Last night we joined thousands of others to see the inner city lit up by giant structures made of light and fabric, many suspended from demolition cranes. These installations had been created by architecture and design students from around New Zealand as part of the Festival of Transitional Architecture. Some of the photos I took of these amazing lights simply don’t do justice to the projects. Although I had a pamphlet with a map, the reality didn’t seem to be quite the same so I may have got some of the names wrong.
It was midnight when we walked home along a block of Manchester Street that’s been off limits since 22 February 2011.
“It truly was a magic sight
to see the spaces filled with light.”
Wasn’t it wonderful? Your photos are great, too. Thanks!

Thanks PW. We were lucky to have such a different and stunning event that could be shared by so many at no charge.

I can see so many orbs in your pics Ruth. The cone of light looks beautiful. Sadly, I wasn’t aware this was on.

Julie, people in Christchurch are so glad to have events like this to take our minds off the daily challenges.
Sue, I think the only publicity was in the ‘Press’, so if you didn’t happen to see that you might not know it was on.
