On a drizzly morning the New Zealand section of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens was alive with birdsong. I managed to record the bellbird.
Anyone who says the native plants of Aotearoa lack colour needs to view this magnificent kakabeak.

Clever you, Ruth! It’s such a sweet sound. I wonder if you heard the researcher on Kim Hill’s programme last week, talking about the korimako/bellbird? Evidently in NZ the female birds sing most, whereas it’s the opposite in the northern hemisphere.

i didn’t hear that programme, but I’m happy to know it was probably a female bellbird I was listening to.
