Walking down Salisbury Street we noted the proliferation of new housing units in the area, which are not so obvious as you drive east on the one-way system. Our destination was the café at the Cosa Hotel on the corner of Colombo Street, somewhere we’d not been before. This hotel was the first modular hotel in Aotearoa, built from modules made in Vietnam, and opened early last year. The café is spacious and obviously serves as a continental breakfast bar for residents. There’s even a machine where you can make your own pancakes.
There was a selection of cabinet food, but no smoothies, and we opted for cold apple juice rather than hot drinks. We sat at an outside table at the north end, where there was a welcome cool breeze and we could watch passersby. Because we’d walked we felt quite holiday-ish. Actually every day is holiday-ish when you’ve finished with paid work, especially at present when we have lovely summer weather.
I took a selfie of us, but couldn’t get the table in as well as our faces. Stephen suggested I need a selfie stick, but I don’t think I need to go that far.
The only drawback was the continual beeping of the adjacent traffic lights. I hope the hotel’s rooms are well sound-proofed, because I think that beeping would keep me awake. As we left we saw a couple of other customers, but I suspect the café doesn’t do much business. It’s very hard for anyone in the hospitality industry at present.
If you stay at Cosa Hotel
best hope the room is sound-proofed well
I'd love to get your thoughts about this post.
