Starting out towards Sumner we detoured to the Mad Butcher because we like their Cumberland sausages. I was pleased to find they also had Packham pears which were not available at New World last week. A stop at Ferrymead Westpac meant I could complete a voluntary task, then we headed further east.
Along the estuary we were surprised to see a large number of black swans, and to find South Shore completely hidden behind a heavy mist. At home the sky had been clear with a beautiful sunrise earlier. We parked at Scarborough and walked to the Ocean Cafe (once was Scarborough Fare). As it was now late morning we decided to have brunch rather than morning tea, and as we were both wearing warm jackets we chose a table in their semi-outside area. Our view was still obscured by mist, but after a short while the sun started to peek through, unexpected on this mid-winter day.
We were lucky the beastly easterly was absent and soon we were feeling the sun’s warmth.
After enjoying our brunch (French toast for Stephen, fish and chips for me), we picked up some books at the splendid Sumner Library before going home. This had been a delightful outing and we agreed we are fortunate to have time to enjoy ourselves without any paid work pressures.
A leisured brunch beside the sea
seems just the perfect treat to me
We often go the Ocean Cafe for brunch mid week; our favourite walking place.

Doing trips to different libraries is such a great excuse for micro adventures 🙂

Yes, indeed. We’d been to the Sumner Library building before, but to see the Museum, not to borrow books. We’ve recently been to Fendalton Library as well.
