The rebuild of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church is almost complete, and the church is now open.
What a change from the way the church looked after the earthquakes.
The new building also houses offices for other organisations and a public cafe, which should be open soon. The official opening for the Church won’t be until late February.

I didn’t take a photo of the outside front as it’s not finished yet. They are planning to put some of the old columns back at the entrance.

Hi Ruth, the hope had been to have the columns in place by now but there has been a hold-up at the stonemasons.
The pipe organ is situated almost exactly in the same position on the site as it was in the old building. The pipes, and most of the woodwork, are all the originals – the pipes were removed and put into storage shortly after the September ‘quake and the wind chests recovered after the ruins were removed almost a year later. It has a new console which has been digitally enhanced, with a third keyboard and several stops added and sounded fantastic on Christmas Eve.

It certainly looks beautiful, and I liked seeing the 1881 stone outside. Looking forward to seeing the columns.
