It felt good to join with hundreds (maybe thousands) of other locals this morning to positively support human rights, tolerance, and diversity. The Christchurch march, organised in just five days, was one of over 600 worldwide held in response to the inauguration of the new U.S. President.
I was surprised so few women were wearing purple, but there were beds of purple petunias all round Queen Victoria’s statue. Is there a sympathetic feminist in the CCC gardening department?
There were a number of good speakers before and after the march. For me the most moving was a black woman (possibly Melissa Lama?) reading Maya Angelou’s “And still I rise”, which has long been a personal favourite.

and we are far from being alone.”
