This meticulously researched and clearly written book is fascinating to dip into. The many illustrations make it even more accessible and attractive. It will be an essential reference for anyone interested in New Zealand history and society.
This is a book to be dipped into, rather than read from cover to cover. The high quality paper which allows for excellent reproduction of illustrations means it’s a literally heavy book, weighing almost four kilos. I’ve had a few days to enjoy a copy which a friend had borrowed from the library, and time to read only a few chapters. These sparked all kinds of memories, and whetted my appetite to read more. The price of $69.99 seems reasonable for a book of this quality, and I look forward to hearing the author talk about it at the forthcoming WORD festival.
