In what order should I start my new morning routine? Yoga exercises or Morning Pages?
On this first day of my new life I was, as usual, awake just after 5am. I’m a morning person, have never needed an alarm, and I love knowing I now have the choice to lie in, or not, every day. I listened to an episode of the Archers before getting up. Two of my retirement goals are for regular exercise and Morning Pages, but which to do first? I decided yoga would be the priority, and it was a good decision. I have a sheet of yoga exercises from sessions I did with Friends of the Western Buddha last century, plus a friend had shared her morning stretch routine. I spent half an hour amalgamating these two. Over the years I’ve taken various yoga classes, and luckily my body has some memory of these. I took it gently, and two hours later I can feel that a few muscles had unaccustomed use – all good!
Morning Pages followed, then e-mails, and breakfast. It will be interesting to see how often I stick to this regime. The sun is shining and plans for today include a beach walk, cake baking, and a short bike ride.
