Innovative drainage systems have been installed along Armagh Street by the Margaret Mahy Playground.
Instead of a gutter there’s a line of pebbles with plants. Every so often there’s a black hemispherical frame covering the entrance to a waste water pipe. This seems to me a great idea. My only concern is what happens about litter? There were a few pieces around and presumably these would have to be picked up by hand as the ‘gutters’ couldn’t easily be swept. I hope we’ll see more of these drainage systemjs around the city.

absorbing water when it rains.”
