We were doing the lunch dishes when the earthquake struck. Measured at 5.7 it was a very nasty jolt. The house shook. The stove moved, and a number of small things fell down. This is the largest shock we’ve had for four years, and it seems poignant that it comes on Valentine’s Day just a week before the 5th anniversary of The Big One. Supermarkets and Malls have been closed. Some schools will be closed tomorrow while buildings are checked. We don’t want or need this disruption!
There’ve been a number of smaller shocks since, the 55th just a few minutes ago was a 4. Could be a sleepless night for some Christchurch residents.

at such a shaky quakey time.”
