Just after lunch there was a tremendous battering on the roof. We looked out and saw hailstones as big as marbles falling on the road. Cars started to pull over rather than drive through it.
There was thunder and lightning, then rain, and I felt very sorry for those who’d planned pre-Christmas barbecues today. The back garden was covered in drifts of hail and we began to wonder whether we would have a white Christmas.
Once the rain stopped I was able to clear the debris from the overflowing gutter outside, but I understand some streets around town have been flooded. An hour and a half later the sky has cleared and the sun is shining. The rain is good for the garden, and to help fight fires in Marlborough, but it will have damaged crops.
“It seems that sunshine will prevail
and drive away unwlcome hail.”
Hail stopped the cricket test in Dunedin earlier today. We just have a gale force NW blustering away at us.

We’ve just had another shower of rain, and now there’s a flock of birds munching on my cherries!

Oh no the hail and rain will split your cherries and no cat will be standing guard in such weather 😦

It was amazing – maybe all part of global warming?

What did Ziggy think of all the noise and commotion? I was out at Darfield, and we had bright sunshine till a heavy shower late afternoon. No hail …

I’m not sure where Ziggy was. Most likely sleeping peacefully through it all..
