Our old silver beet was well past it and needed to go.
I’d seen possible replacements at The Warehouse last weekend, but the plants looked so sad I couldn’t bear to buy them. Today I was delighted to find seedlings of Silver Rib Silverbeet, certified biogro organic, on sale at Piko, just across the road. They also had Roquefort dwarf butter beans, already flowering. How could I resist?
These plants are grown by Hurst Growers, in Tai Tapu, and it’s lovely to have them available at a good price. They’ve now been planted and watered – there’s even been a brief shower of rain to help them on their way.
It’s wonderful to have Piko returned, especially now they have a special gardening section.
“We’ll soon have beans and silver beet
organic grown and good to eat.”
