Our walnut tree in now in full flower.
It looks pretty and we love the shade it brings in summer, but, oh those catkins! They fall all over the back garden. Although they quickly shrivel up, I remove as many as I can to the green bin. Walnut leaves poison the soil. I’m not sure whether the catkins do too, but I don’t want to take any chances. The tree was originally a present from a friend, and I now wonder whether we’d have been wiser not to plant it in our small garden, but we love the generous crop of nuts.
“A walnut tree’s a two-edged sword
although it gives nuts as reward.”
