There was foam skittering all along the beach yesterday morning.
Apparently this is caused by the agitation of seawater, especially when it contains higher concentrations of dissolved organic matter from the offshore breakdown of algal blooms. As the seawater is churned by breaking waves the presence of these foaming agents traps air, forming persistent bubbles that stick to each other through surface tension. The foam may be the reason why we didn’t see any surfers. The bubbles stuck to this dog’s feet, making him look as though he had foamy boots. I guess it would have stuck to any surfers too.
The dog wouldn’t stand still to have his photo taken, but his back paws look cute.
“Because the beach was full of foam
it seems the surfers had stayed home.”
