I find it hard to be excited about the new artwork on the side of the Art Gallery (you can just see it at the top of the wall in this photo).
It’s a neon sign that reads “Everything is going to be alright”. The sign is 46 metres long, and is by London artist Martin Creed. My photo may not show it at the best angle, but I like the fact that the fences and road cones show that everything’s not ‘alright’ yet. Bob Marley had a song with a similar message, plus there’s been an all right! campagin in Canterbury for several years now. I don’t want to be continually told everything will be all right. I want it to actually happen – for everyone.
