Increased mortality among local seals led to an article stating that necropsies would be carried out on some to confirm the cause of death. I’m a fan of “Bones”, and I wondered what the difference is between an autopsy and a necropsy. Some people suggest that an autopsy is performed on a human by a human, and a necropsy is performed on a “member of a species not belonging to the species of the conductor of the procedure”, i.e usually on an animal by a human. I wonder what it would be called if a clever animal performed such an operation on a human? What if an autopsy was carried out by a robot? My Shorter Oxford Dictionary suggests that necropsy=autopsy, with no mention of animals.
“I guess that once a person’s dead
it doesn’t matter how it’s said.”
