Word puzzles of various types are something I enjoy – Scrabble, Wordscraper, Crosswords, & Code Cracker. Each morning I attempt the “Press” cryptic crossword and Code Cracker. Usually I fill in the first word in the latter, and leave the satisfaction of completing it for the evening. Occasionally I can finish the cryptic crossword in one go over breakfast, but often I need a second look later.
This morning the first word in the Code Cracker eluded me. It was a six letter word, ending in MT, with all the other letters different, and I couldn’t think of the answer. Because I had some extra time, my computer was still on, and (oh, the shame!) I resorted to asking Aunty Google, something I’ve never done before. Of course she quickly supplied the answer, which I’m not telling in case you haven’t thought of it yet. My conscience is troubling me just a little, but knowing the first word means I’ll have the pleasure of finishing the grid later, so surely justified? What do you think?
“Now, am I really such a cheat
to want my Code Cracker complete?”
