The tide was higher than usual at Waimairi Beach this morning.
Apparently this is called a “King Tide”. The water was so high it wasn’t practical to walk along the beach, plus it was cold! We saw a few intrepid surfers making their way towards the waves, and decided to head to Hagley Park for our walk instead.
There was also a cloud of dirty smoke, coming from the fire at the Burwood Resource Recovery Plant. This started on Thursday afternoon in a pile of recycled wood from the red zone, and is likely to burn for a few more days.
“The king tide kept us off the beach.
We drove away out of smoke’s reach.”
