This installation sits high up in the trees beside the Avon River.
It’s “Memory” by Sarah Greig, and its representation of harakeke/flax growing from a chimney reminds us that despite Christchurch’s loss of architectural heritage, new life continues to grow. When viewed from below the flat piece appears to be three-dimensional. Sarah has created wall-mounted minisatures of this work which are available for sale.
“This chimney sitting in the tree
reminds us of what used to be.”
