This blog was created on 5 March 2006, so today I’m celebrating nine years of blogging. The most significant milestone recently is that I now have more than 500 followers. I am obsessed by enjoy the challenge of trying to write something every day. Sometimes I draft several posts at the weekend, then slowly publish them during the week. I’ve also learned to simply leave the blog be if I don’t have any inspiration or energy for it.
Thanks to everyone who follows, and especially those who comment (lurkers are appreciated too). I hope for your many happy returns. Can anyone tell me how I can ‘like’ a comment? I don’t seem to have an option for this, but other people do it.

I might have even baked a cake.”
congratulations Ruth. dedication, persistence and passion.

Congratulations Ruth. I am mainly a lurker, although I believe I may have commented once! I do enjoy your grass roots eyes on the inner city musings. It should be an encouragement to more of us to get in there and walk around – I get depressed by the number of people who just stay in their little suburban villages.

Marion, I’ve wondered if you’re a Marion I used to know as a volunteer? Sometimes I feel I’m just staying in my little central village, but at least there are things going on here.

Congratulations Ruth! 9 years is a great achievement.
Do you have a WP Reader? If so check the icons at the top right of the Reader. If you click on the square speech bubble icon or perhaps a Bell like icon then you may be offered a range of options, including a “like” option for comments. It took me a bit of ferreting to work out how to “like” others comments on my blog. I had noticed it happening elsewhere so went hunting. Hope this helps…….

I found the bell-like icon, and thought I’d managed to like your comment, but it doesn’t seem to have worked. I’ll try again, and do appreciate the info.

I have received an email to say you “liked” my comment and it shows up under my Bell icon. I’m pleased I could help.

That’s progress, but I wanted it to show on your comment on my blog. Other people manage that, but I don’t know how.

Hmmm that has me stumped Ruth. I get lots of notifications via the Bell icon and or email that people have liked my comment/reply but it doesn’t show when I check on my actual blog….
I had wondered if it was because I have an older WP theme but even up to date themes don’t seem to show “likes” on comments/replies. You have obviously seen something different. I will let you know if I solve this mystery!

Now I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve been imagining things, OG. I thought I’d seen ‘likes’ on blog posts and comments, but I’m starting to wonder if I’m confusing them with likes on Facbook (especially as I’ve spent all afternoon discussing strategy for Facebook pages). I certainly get notifications that people like posts and comments. Maybe that’s all there is..

I’ll keep my eyes open as I go about the blogs I read regularly and see if I can spot “likes on the posts/comments……
Good luck with FB – it can be bewildering at times.

Thanks, lensaddiction. You’d be welcome if you did stop. Gallivanta did once.

Ruth, congratulations on a very impressive blogging record! You are right about the likes button appearing on blogs – WordPress ones anyway. They’ve started popping up on blogs that I follow. Good luck with sorting it.

I just got a ‘like’ notification from you Ruth, but no message.

I did just ‘like’ your comment, and obviously you get a message, but nothing shows on the blog – it’s all a bit mysterious. I appreciate your congratulations!
