They’re starting to build something new near the corner of Kilmore and Barbadoes Streets. This is the section where there used to be an aquarium shop, a kitchen shop, Fuschia gifts, and the Deaf Association (although not all at once). This morning there was a digger smoothing the section.
I asked one of the workmen what will go there, and was told it will be a two-storey commercial building with a cafe on the ground floor. It should all be finished by the end of the year. This afternoon they’d dug holes for the footings and erected a fence.
It’s great to see progress, and a cafe will help to entice people to buy the new residential units that are starting to spring up nearby.

restored to their activity.”
Love the sky and the shiny hi-vis vests in the first photo.

I went past there yesterday and wondered what was being built . It looks like a very square 3 storey building. heres hoping some good things go into it. It would be great for the neighbourhood if some interesting little shops went in. Do you miss the dairy? A mini mart would be good. I am out of my house for EQ repairs and the supermarket is a 2 minute walk away. loving it. takes all the stress out of grocery shopping. no parking in crowded car parks.!!!

It’s actually just two storeys. I had recent e-mail correspondence with the developer who told me the dairy has been leased. There’s another shop and cafe available (and the cafe has a pending lease), plus two offices upstairs. The building will be completed in February or March. I do miss the dairy. Although we didn’t buy much there it was so handy for odd things. I miss Piko even more, and envy you having a supermarket so close.
