Te Papa Otakaro/Avon River Precinct is possibly the largest urban river restoration programme in Aotearoa. The aim is to return the river as closely as possible to its original state. They’re working hard on the area west of the CBD, clearing silt and washing the gravel.
The precinct is supposed to reach to the Fitzgerald Avenue Bridge. I love the idea of making the river attractive for flora and fauna, as well as for people, but I hope priority is being given to urgent infrastructure repairs.
Did you see the programme on “Campbell Live” last night about the central city rebuild? I thought it gave a realistic picture of what’s happening.
“We first should clear the silt and mud
in places that are prone to flood.”
I'd love to get your thoughts about this post.
