The transitional cathedral is now open to the public, and looks wonderful.
It’s light and simple and the cardboard tubes give it lovely lines. I like it and I think most people will too. It’s so good to finally have the construction fences around it removed.
There was a sign saying that tonight’s concert has sold out. I’d hoped to buy some small gifts from the shop, but it wasn’t open. Apparently there’s been a delay in getting internet access, so their tills aren’t yet working. It should be open early next week, but I won’t be here then!
“Our cardboard church is looking great
and definitely worth the wait.”
I can remember the sarcasm by Radio Hosts, boohooed a cardboard cathedral, but I knew it would be wonderful.. and from that photograph its looks stunning.. I was for it from the start, its different from the old, but you need something in its place and hope its there for a long time. thank you for sharing it with us.. I know it cant take the place of the magnificent stone cathedral but… think positive..

I think this new building could serve the city for a long time – they say it will last 50 years. I hope to see the old cathedral left as a memorial ruin.

This is wonderful news. I am really looking forward to my first visit. I would like the old cathedral to be a memorial ruin too.

I hope you have a chance to visit soon, although I suspect it may be quite busy for a while. There were only a couple of people in there when I visited, presumably because people haven’t yet realised that it’s open.

Yes, I knew it would be open for the concerts but I was not sure when the public would be allowed to wander in.

It is really beautiful, and so good to have an attractive new building in the central city. May many more follow soon.

There’s a strong need for something that is new, safe, and attractive in the inner city.
