Gloucester Street bridge has been closed for urgent repairs since engineers found a structural issue on Wednesday.
This bridge is the most convenient way for Stephen and me to get to work if we’re driving, and I expect a lot of people will be inconvenienced by this necessary shutdown.
Manchester Street is purportedly open, but in fact it’s one way only (north) from Tuam to Hereford Streets. The alternative to Gloucester Street is Kilmore Street, which is currently a one lane slalom from Manchester to Durham because of road works.
Just another example of the challenges of life in Christchurch.
“We have to seek another way
depending on what’s closed today.”
If nothing else these things will keep your mind challenged and your sense of direction alert!

Thank you. There’s a few too many slaloms round here at present.

It is not reassuring that structural issues are only now being discovered. Keep safe Ruth.
