New Brighton beach was the venue for the annual Kite Day, and getting there was a challenge, with traffic backed up way down Pages Road. At least it gave all the people from the western suburbs a good chance to see some of the devastation in the east. There was no chance of getting a park nearby, but we had a good view of the kites as we crawled along Marine Parade, then turned and crawled back again, hovering in a driveway while I took a photo.
The kites were absolutely spectacular and wonderful to see, some hovering, and some swooping up and down. There’s something very special about the power of all that air energy.
“The kites soared high above the beach
spectacularly out of reach.”
