I took a different route this morning – through the Moa precinct where there are abandoned homes, but fewer bare sections, then across to the cemetery. Many gravestones have cracked or fallen, but the plaque for Lady Barker’s baby remains intact. I finished up by the sacred waters of Tautahi (St Mary’s Stream).
The central Crone Pou toppled in the February earthquake, and the Mother Pou (far right) leans at a dangerous angle, but this is still a peaceful spot.
In today’s e-mail was a notice from the Library telling me that I have three overdue books, which have so far incurred $1.50 in fines. I’d finished one, and decided to return another unread, so this afternoon I walked down to the new Central Library on Peterborough Street.
I’ve really appreciated the Mobile Library in Durham Street, and the South City Mini-library, but it’s wonderful to have full facilities available again, and only a few blocks from home. I have another four books due this Friday, as well as the one due last Friday, so I’d better get reading.
“A holiday is time to read
a most relaxing task indeed.”
I'd love to get your thoughts about this post.
