Today we signed The Pledge. This is a personal commitment to Canterbury and the rebuilding of Christchurch. It’s been available for public signing at various malls on various days, but we’re not inclined to visit malls. I read that it could be signed at the Kiwi Bookshop in Edgeware, so that’s where we went.
All the pages will eventually be bound together and the book presented to the Mayor. They ask you to put your age, so maybe someone’s going to analyse the signatures? It felt good to be taking a concrete action to show our support for our city.
They were also selling Anzac poppies at the bookshop. I imagine the usual street collection isn’t happening because of the earthquake. I know of several organisations who’ve cancelled planned street appeals, and wonder how they’ll fare without that income.
“It’s something you can underline
so if you mean to stay, you sign.”
I'd love to get your thoughts about this post.
