After the earthquake on Tuesday afternoon we could see clouds of smoke but didn’t then know it was the CTV building burning. Overhead there was the loud noise of a helicopter carrying a monsoon bucket. We walked across the road to find that it was filling the bucket from the river in front of the fire station.
The river between Barbadoes and Madras Streets looked very different:
The previous days those tussocks had been on the edge of the riverbank, but the river changed drastically with the earthquake. The ducks look as though they are finding all kinds of grubbly delights in their new swimming area. This is one of my favourite earthquake photos.
“The ducks could not believe their luck
– new taste delights within the muck.”
I posted a similar pic on my blog showing Horseshoe Lake – all very different now. The jetty is still underwater.
