I saw this stunning theatrical performance yesterday. Like nothing I’ve experienced before, it’s a blend of kapa haka, trapeze, music and dancing, all weaving together the story of Maui, whose deeds can well be compared to those of Hercules. The effects were extraordinary, a highlight being the underwater scene, with swirling waters and deep sea denizens. At other times the action had the audience craning our heads to keep up with the aerial antics. There was some English commentary, and I wondered whether a little more explanation might have increased the enjoyment of those who were unfamiliar with the legends. Technically the show was superb and it’s great to see our own stories being given such amazing professional treatment.
I'd love to get your thoughts about this post.
