The Christchurch Art Gallery is currently showing ‘Tricksters”, the last of the Rolling Maul series at the NG Gallery in Madras Street. The work by Wayne Youle is addictive and mesmerising. It’s like one of those games we used to see in some milk bars, where a ball runs down a series of slots. I can’t quite remember the title, but it’s something like “Tumbling. Crumbling, and Mumbling.”
The exhibition’s on until 27 January, and well worth a visit. There’s also an opportunity to sign a petition asking that the historic NG building not be demolished to make way for a possible stadium.
“So few historic buildings left
if this one goes we’ll be bereft.”
Those few historic buildings that remain must be becoming more and more precious.
This is an attractive Victorian building which has been carefully restored and strengthened.
