The old railway station in Moorhouse Avenue has now gone completely. When I stopped at the corner of Manchester Street I was struck by how prominent this row of trees is now, when previously they were dwarfed by the station building and Hoyts advertising.
“Now that the building’s gone from sight
the trees stand in a different light.”

My goodness, this was such a landmark! Losses keep happening to familiar spots. I susepct i may not recognise much of the city were i to come down for a few days I wonder what they will do with that sapce now.
Christchurch must be full of unusual vistas now that so many buildings have been lost. A railway station is a significant loss.
Thank goodness for the Gap Filler projects but the gaps seem to be gaining in number now Ruth.
This was our old railway station. Trains hadn’t stopped there for many years. Recently it had been a multiplex cinema, science centre, and home to many organisations including my old yoga school. Developers have announced plans for a futuristic building on the site. It will house an entertainment complex, cost $30 million, and should be completed by the end of next year.
