This giant mural has gone up in the Restart Mall.
It was painted by graffiti artists Nick ‘Icarus’ Tam and Wongi ‘Freak’ Wilson who chose Pinocchio for the theme because “he wants to be a real boy, just like we want to be accepted as real artists.” The mural is part of the Art Beat programme which will run until February 2013, integrating art and entertainment into the city’s rebuild.
“A programme of exciting art
will brighten up the city’s heart.”

colourful and bright. We here in Wellington are preparing for the Hobbit premier on a stunning still day that is hot and clear. the city is decked out with hobbits, Gandalf, banners, a red carpet in courtney Place and a special edition of the Dompost. if i wasn’t workign I would be down amongst the energy of such a festival myself.
I posted off our English Xmas cards yesterday, with stamps showing Gollum and Bilbo.
You are doing such a great job of documenting the street art and community initiatives of Christchurch Ruth. All great fun to see.
Thanks, Juliet. Writing about them helps me to absorb the tremendous changes going on in our inner city.
