A portion of central Madras Street is closed to traffic this week. This means vehicles on Tuam Street are slowed right down. Luckily pedestrians can still go along Madras and I went to find out the reason for the closure.
They’re digging a big hole in the middle of the street outside the Ng building. I wonder why?
“For walkers there’s no deviation.
Drivers are bound to feel frustration.”

I guess motorists in Christchurch just sigh again at things like this.
You know you’re from Christchurch when even the diversions have diversions on them…
Today they’re digging even more holes in that area. It makes that part of Madras Street good for pedestrians, with no cars.
