Yesterday Prince Charles and Camilla came to the Avon Loop to meet some of our red-zoned neighbours. I saw a policeman standing on the bridge and guessed the royal party must be approaching. When I went out with my camera I was told they were just two minutes away. First came the outriders:
…then several cars, one of which must have held Chas and Millie, but I couldn’t see them. I think I did spot the Governor General. Barbadoes Street traffic was stopped while the motorcade passed through.
Even if I couldn’t see the royals they would have seen me, as there was no-one else around. Plus, they would have had a good view of a certain attractive cottage.
“The royal party passed me by.
To wave, I didn’t even try.”

“Chas and Millie” – I did have to giggle Ruth. I’m glad you showed a presence and by your lovely cottage. I remember as a small school aged child being transported to Athletic Park to wave flags as the Queen and Duke went by in their somewhat posher car than these ones.
Ooops, “Transported in bus loads….to.”
)
They were in the silver car – we saw them arrive at the reStart mall and then my youngest shook hands with both of them. I was fascinated by the whole way their security was managed. They obviously kept deviating from The Plan and throwing their minders into a flap! I felt rather ‘herded’ by the end of it all
Flossy, thanks for confirming it was the silver car. I blew up the photo to see whether I could see them, but to no avail.
OG, I think most of us have memories of waving flags for various royal visits. I also remember lessons in curtseying when the Governor General’s wife was coming to visit our school – Lady Fergusson I think.
Would it be right to say that you were underwhelmed, Ruth?
My interest in royalty is low. I wouldn’t have gone out of my way to see them.
