Piko’s building is to become an Iyengar Yoga school.
Piko plan to return to this site eventually, but it will take a few years. In the interim YogaBase expect to have classes up and running within a month. Iyengar Yoga suits me because there are plenty of props to support those who are less supple, but it’s a few years since I’ve done any at all. I wonder if they’ll have classes suitable for people who are well out of practice?
“I know that I am far from fit
and doubt if I will recommit.”

I used to teach iyengar yoga in dunedin many years ago and I still have his book written for the postures. Yoga is one of the best ways to stay supple and to lower anxiety. There seems to be a resurgence in yoga at the moment. My experience was in the 1970s when there was a real development. One of the weekly classes I used to attend did a series of breathing exercises one of which was alternate nostril breathing, another included pushing a tube up one nostril with the intent of having it come out through one’s mouth….I never quite achieved that although I did try.
I went to my first yoga class in nearly a year, last night. It’s surprising how quickly it comes back. Go for it Ruth!
Carol, nostril tubes are one prop I have not come across, and have no wish to.
Juliet, it’s several years since I’ve been, but I will check whether they have a suitable class for my very basic level.
I’ve stumbled across references to Piko on blogs on several occasions this week….it is strange how that happens at times.
Stretching our reluctant bodies is apparently very good for us Ruth
OG, I wonder whether you’ve been reading David Haywood’s story of moving his red-zoned house? He mentions Piko. http://publicaddress.net/southerly/liveblog-moving-house-literally/
Yes I have been following David Haywood’s story via his blog on Public Address. Their solution has been so creative and I hope they settle happily in Dunsandel.
We have a house moving company nearby and I’ve seen them doing amazing things in the dark as they shift very large houses and shed.
But Piko popped up somewhere else during the week.
Have you heard about “Quake Box” Ruth? A university researcher in brain and behaviour is involved in this in ChCh to learn more about how people tell stories. It sounds a most interesting exercise and a greart way to capture anecdotal evidence related to the earthquakes.
Yes, I know about the Quake Box in the Restart Mall. It sounds a great idea. I think I’ve told enough of my story via this blog, and the video that Re-generation made, so won’t be offering but I think many people will appreciate the opportunity to talk about their experiences.
