No-one seems to have mentioned the fact that 22 February has for many years been known as Thinking Day. The day is commemorated by Guides and Scouts because 22 February was the birthday of both the founders of those movements, Robert Baden-Powell (born 1857), and his wife, Olave Baden-Powell (born 1889). In a previous life I was a Brown Owl, and many others must also be aware of Thinking Day. I guess the Guides and Scouts have been keeping quiet because they don’t want to deflect attention from the earthquake anniversary. Certainly everyone was doing some serious thinking last Wednesday.
“It’s always been a day for thought
which now has even more import.”
A lot of thinking happened on the 22nd. People reported very large buildings full of people falling silent at 12.51pm
I wonder if the Guides and Scouts had a special thinking day to quietly commemorate the earthquake?
