The film “When a City Falls” is a must-see for anyone who cares about Christchurch. For overseas readers (and those in Aotearoa who missed it on Wednesday evening) the dvd is now available and you can order it here.
“This film is one that all should see
I urge you, buy the DVD.”
I rewatched When a city Falls on TV 3 on Wednesday evening with my candle burning in recognition of the FEb earthquakeand subsequent shakes last year. About half way through the documentary I heard hissing kind of noises and found that the side of my candle had leaked open and started to spill the hot wax over the table and on to the floor (and carpet). Maybe it was overwhelmed, maybe it was a signal that events can happen at any time……or maybe it was just a candle reaching the end of its productive life. Once the wax had firmed, i cleaned it up and finished watching a documentary that is a tribute to the resilience and hope of people managing in and after tragic events.
Carol, this reminds me of several times when you and I have had to use brown paper to iron candlegrease out of a carpet. I hope there’s no lasting damage from this symbolic signal. x x x
It is an excellent documentary Ruth. Not a lot of words were needed on it to tell such a powerful, sad and moving record
