Pam Ayres says she loved writing this memoir, and that love shines through its pages. She writes of her post-war childhood in a small village in Berkshire, England, and the magic of the English countryside. Her life as a teenager in the 1960′s included some anecdotes that anyone of a certain age could identify with. I like the way Pam accepts the mores of the times yet acknowledges that her ideas have since changed. Her success from such an unlikely background is inspiring and she tells it all in a refreshingly warm and honest way. After reading this I watched Pam reading a moving poem written about Canterbury on YouTube. You might enjoy it too.
“A high brow poet she is not
but she delightfully hits the spot.”
